A complete mobile-first redesign of an aging e-commerce site delivered a significantly improved user experience and a substantial increase in conversion rates.
Challenge
The client had been operating an e-commerce site built over a decade ago. The site suffered from broken layouts on smartphones, slow page load times, and a cumbersome product search experience. Despite mobile traffic accounting for over 70% of all visits, the mobile conversion rate was less than one-third of the desktop rate, resulting in significant lost revenue opportunities.
Solution
We adopted a mobile-first responsive design approach and rebuilt the UI from the ground up. Page load performance was optimized using SSG/ISR with Next.js, achieving good scores across all Core Web Vitals metrics. We also implemented AI-powered product recommendations and an intuitive faceted search, creating a streamlined path for users to find products quickly. A phased release plan ensured a smooth transition without disrupting existing operations.
Results
Within three months of the relaunch, mobile conversion rates increased 2.4x, and total monthly site revenue grew 35% year-over-year. Average mobile page load time was reduced to 1.8 seconds, and the bounce rate improved from 42% to 28%.
