llms.txt
Also known as: llms.txt / LLM向けサイト案内ファイル
A proposed text file placed at the site root to help LLMs understand a site. Like robots.txt but for AI comprehension, it describes site purpose, key pages, and context in Markdown — currently an informal community standard.
Overview
llms.txt is an informal specification proposed by Jeremy Howard and others in 2024. It describes site name, purpose, and key URLs in simple Markdown. While major search engines have not officially endorsed it, AI assistants such as Claude and Perplexity are reported to benefit from its presence.
Implementation and Effects
The recommended LLMO practice is to combine llms.txt with robots.txt and structured data. Our LLMO technical implementation guide contains sample content and setup instructions.
